NOMEX® Material for Firefighting Industry
Every firefighter’s turnout is a composite of three components (an outershell, a moisture barrier and a thermal liner) designed to offer superior protection from intense heat and flame. When these inner components are made with DuPont™ NOMEX® brand fiber, they provide 70% of a turnout’s thermal performance protection. Even if the outer shell is made with DuPont™ KEVLAR,® PBI® or Basofil,® thermal protection is assured because NOMEX® is still inside, working hard to protect firefighters in both their thermal liner and moisture barrier. These components of NOMEX® make it safer for firefighters to perform when the heat’s on:

NOMEX® outershells
more than handle the intense heat and flame of today’s fires and stand up well to multiple washings. When blended with DuPont™ KEVLAR® brand fiber, they provide enhanced comfort, increased breathability and mobility, as well as lower bulk and total weight, which results in less heat stress. And, even after exposure to heat and flame, these rugged outer shell materials remain highly durable.

NOMEX® moisture barriers
are breathable, lighter, softer and more flexible than other fibers available to firefighters and, as a result, offer enhanced comfort.

NOMEX® thermal liners
NOMEX® thermal liners, because they are less bulky, offer greater comfort and decrease the threat of heat stress, a leading cause of fatal injury for on-duty firefighters. Since they are also extremely durable, they hold up well after multiple launderings. DuPont™ NOMEX® brand fiber is found in more than turnout components, however. When firefighters, first responders and emergency services personnel need anideal combination of durability, affordability, comfort and exceptional thermal protection, they turn to protective apparel of NOMEX.® In addition to effectively combating heat and heat stress, NOMEX® enables wearers to perform to their fullest potential because they are comfortable, safe and protected against the intense heat they face every day.

Our newest offerings include:

DuPont™ NOMEX® Stationwear
This lightweight, breathable, NFPA 1975-compliant apparel is worn under turnout gear. In simulated flash fire exposure tests between NOMEX® Stationwear and poly/cotton station wear blends, cotton ignited and burned. In the same exposure, NOMEX® Stationwear did not, and the predicted burn injury was reduced by 50%.

EMS Wear of NOMEX®
This apparel provides excellent thermal protection from flash fire hazards often encountered at accident scenes. It also incorporates viral protection from liquid-borne pathogens and protection against many hazardous chemicals.

DuPont™ NOMEX® Wildland Gear
This NFPA 1977-compliant gear—the industry standard because of the excellent durability, thermal protection and lightweight comfort it provides—balances thermal protection and radiant heat by wicking away perspiration and body heat, which helps keep wildland firefighters cooler, drier and more comfortable on the job.

Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Gear of NOMEX®
Ideal for use in urban technical rescue/recovery operations and compliant with NFPA 1951, these garments consist of an outer shell, which offers abrasion, cut and thermal protection, and a moisture barrier, which protects against liquid/viral penetration. And, with the new NOMEX® Brand Preferred Program, the protection of firefighters, first responders and emergency services personnel is even more assured. That’s because all protective garments manufactured by Preferred Partners of NOMEX® must satisfy an extensive set of quality, performance and compatibility standards.

 NOMEX® Material for Industrial
Protective Apparel of NOMEX®
One way to be sure that your employees’ garments perform under extreme—and potentially hazardous—conditions is to take advantage of the superior flame resistance, comfort, quality and durability found in protective apparel made with DuPont™ NOMEX® brand fiber. NOMEX® has a successful history of protecting people in many industries and occupations where exposure to flash fires and electric arcs can ignite and burn traditional clothing: petroleum refining; petrochemical manufacturing; chemical manufacturing; electric and gas utilities; auto racing; military; and emergency response. Because NOMEX® is designed to act as a protective barrier between wearers and the intense heat and flames that result from flash fires or electric arcs, protective apparel of NOMEX® is compliant with: NFPA 2112, a standard developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), covering flame-resistant garments that protect industrial personnel against flash fires. NFPA 70E, a comprehensive standard developed by the NFPA, which outlines the need for comprehensive electrical safety programs, including the wearing of FR clothing to protect workers from electric arcs. Not only is NOMEX® inherently flame-resistant (its resistance to flame is based on the fiber’s molecular structure; and not a chemical coating), so it won’t melt and drip or support combustion in the air, but it offers outstanding resistance to a broad range of chemicals, acids and alkalis, as well. And, this permanent protection cannot be washed out or worn away. NOMEX® can be cleaned with organic solvents that will remove flammable contaminants without affecting garment wear life. This extremely durable protective apparel can last 150 washings—approximately 3-5 years based on environment and tasks—which translates to the lowest cost-per-wear and best value among all FR garments in the marketplace. NOMEX® is also lighter, more flexible and breathable than most other flame-resistant apparel fabrics, so wearers are more comfortable on the job, and safer, too, since dexterity and efficiency are not compromised.

Protective apparel of NOMEX® is available through the NOMEX® Preferred Program and manufactured by Bulwark® and Workrite,® Preferred Partners of NOMEX® that have access to the newest and latest product developments and technical information for the FR industry. The commitment these highly qualified manufacturers demonstrate to their customers, coupled with the superior thermal protection that is synonymous with NOMEX,® results in a protective apparel solution that is tailored to meet your specific needs. The wide variety of protective apparel styles and colors available under the NOMEX® Preferred Program include:
