Every year the U.S has 275,000 reports of traumatic brain injuries. If you have ever been to a job site, chances are that you were told that hard hats are required. People seem to forget that even if you are just visiting a site there is still a chance of severe injury. Hard hats are important in preventing brain injuries in the work place, and this is why OSHA and ANSI are so stringent with their standards for wearing them.

The hard hat does more than just protect you from blunt force. It is designed to reduce discomfort in hot weather. Having a ventilated top and attachments available to cool and protect the back of the neck, these hard hats can make a hot day more comfortable. Visors can also be installed to protect from chemicals, preventing them from going into your eyes and mouth. Another thing is that hard hat itself is made with material that prevents electric shock.

Hard hats need to meet a certain standard. This is where OSHA and ANSI come in. The hard hats can’t be manipulated in a way that will hinder its main function (i.e. adding non-approved attachments, altering the hardhats structure, etc.). Also there are codes in place designed to force employees to wear hardhats, and on employers to make sure that their employees know to wear them.

Hard hats come in many shapes and forms, it’s important to pick the right one for you work and your comfort. It’s designed to do much more than protect you from blunt force, which is why it’s so vital to have it on at all times.

While it might seem cumbersome the hard hat can save your life.
